Non-local Google+ page to a local Google+ page
#googleplustips #googleplus Originally shared by Tim SweeneyConnecting A Non-Local Google Plus Page To Google MapsConnecting a non-local Google+ page to Google Maps was offered as a featured in June 2014. It was presented here,
http://goo.gl/q27HZU, shortly thereafter without much commentary. (It was new at the time.)
What does it allow you to do?It allows you to connect a non-local Google+ page to Google Maps.
Why this might be of use?The first thought would be that it would allow the collection of reviews as mentioned in the associated Google help document,
http://goo.gl/Y2QVdJ. Not sure if it would add any "juice" to the regular Google+ page and/or associated website. By juice I'm talking about search signals and/or the positive impact reviews can have on capturing business. (Note, this is making a wide speculative assumption here and that the reviews are mostly positive.)
When would this feature be appropriate to use? This is where my question comes in. The application of this technique would probably only be appropriate in certain situations and I'm sure there are caveats to consider before trying this.
The one application I can think of would be in the case in which you have a "brand" that operates beyond the local scope and does not need and/or use its local page as part of its strategy of capturing business. An example might be an ecommerce business operating on a national scale. In this case, the ability to tie in reviews, especially through Google, are very compelling. And yes there are many other ways of capturing reviews in this situations, but I dare speculate that a Google review has more weight than a 3rd party review. (Please deflate this notion if it's without merit.)
Then there is the knowledge panel (box) associated with brand searches. If our hypothetical ecommerce business is called Acme inc, will the brands Google+ page knowledge panel (box) show rather than the local Google+ page knowledge panel show when a brand search for Acme inc is conducted?
Any input on this would be appreciated as I lack the clarity on this to proceed. In other words, this all sounds good but could end up in a convoluted mess.
